A Night at Fantasia: Nathalie Legault at the World Premiere of ROMIN

There are evenings that brilliantly reward months of relentless hard work spent behind the scenes and far from the spotlight. On August 1st, Nathalie Legault experienced one of those rare and precious moments: the world premiere of the feature film ROMIN, celebrated and showcased as part of the official selection at the Fantasia International Film Festival in Montreal.

An Invitation Out of Nowhere

This unforgettable evening represented the culmination of a human and artistic adventure that began spontaneously with a simple knock on the door. Co-director, co-writer, and lead actor Anthony Dionne knocked directly on Nathalie's door alongside co-director Jassen Charron to invite her to join the creative team behind ROMIN. It was a bold, ambitious debut feature film for these two passionate and determined young filmmakers.

The thrilling storyline of ROMIN follows the poignant and gripping journey of a teenager haunted by the tragic memory and disappearance of his father. When he uncovers a mysterious artifact with unsuspected powers, he finds himself in a race against time: he must return the sacred object to its origin in the heart of the Bahamas before an ancient curse takes hold of him for good.

A Demanding Shoot Between Quebec and the Bahamas

On this major film project, Nathalie Legault single-handedly took charge of the entire makeup department for the full cast. It was an exceptionally demanding responsibility that required her to meticulously anticipate the aesthetic needs of every actor while ensuring visual continuity across all scenes without additional technical support.

She brought out the very best on screen for a compelling cast led by Anthony Dionne, Jassen Charron, Rosalie Pépin, James-Edward Métayer, Emmanuel Auger, and Sid Donarski, alongside prominent figures of Quebec cinema including Ève Salvail, Paul Doucet, Sonia Vachon, Simon Pigeon, Liliane Skelly, Ève Duranceau, Carmen Sylvestre, and Sylvain Larocque.

Filming unfolded in two distinct key stages: approximately two intense weeks in the natural landscapes of the Bahamas where the movie's climax takes place, followed by key scenes shot around the Montreal area.

The Magic of the World Premiere at Fantasia

The official screening on August 1st will remain etched in the memories of everyone involved. Inside the festival venue, a warm and festive atmosphere took hold long before the movie started. What stood out most when watching the crowd was the genuine smiles on every face and the shared spark of pride in the eyes of directors Anthony Dionne and Jassen Charron, the crew, technicians, and cast members. After so much dedicated work, seeing the final result projected on the big screen of one of the world's premiere genre film festivals brought immense joy to everyone.

Celebrating this major milestone alongside loved ones, friends, and family made the occasion all the more memorable. These special guests, who witnessed the countless hours invested by the crew, fully appreciated the extraordinary path travelled: taking a daring dream and bringing it to international festival recognition.

Professional Recognition and a Deeply Human Adventure

For Nathalie, this world premiere resonated deeply and brought profound personal fulfillment. Having worked in the film industry for several years—primarily on major international American productions as a makeup artist, assistant makeup artist, and specialist in special effects, tattoos, and airbrushing—she had long hoped to find a tight-knit, harmonious team to build lasting bonds with.

"I've always said I wanted to find a wonderful team where we work so well together that I just want to jump straight into the next shoot with them and feel fully part of the crew. That is exactly what I experienced on the set of ROMIN. I felt like family. I truly loved every single person on this shoot. Yes, it was demanding work, but I put my heart into it with absolute joy."

Seeing this project take flight and gain international visibility fills her with pride beyond words. This adventure firmly reaffirms what drives Nathalie in her career: a strong desire to mentor emerging talent, invest in passion projects, and keep believing in the dreams of tomorrow's artists.
